MCP Servers

Manage external tools and services that the AI assistant can use during conversations.

Administrators Only

This section is for organization administrators only.

If you're a regular user, you can safely skip this page.

What Are MCP Servers?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers are external services that extend what the AI assistant can do. When connected, the assistant can call these services to perform tasks such as fetching weather data, querying a database, accessing specialized APIs, and much more.

The AI assistant comes with a default set of general-purpose tools (web search, image generation, document processing). MCP servers let you add custom tools on top of those.

Access the Tools Page

Only administrators can manage MCP servers.

  1. Open the Chat App
  2. Look for the Tools icon (wrench) in the sidebar
  3. Click it to open the Tools management page

The page displays all configured MCP servers in a table. If no servers are configured, the page shows an empty state.

Add an MCP Server

  1. Click Add MCP Server at the top of the page
  2. Fill in the server details:
FieldRequiredDescription
Server NameYesA display name to identify the server (for example, "Open-Meteo Weather")
Server URLYesThe URL of the MCP server (for example, http://localhost:3000/sse)
AuthenticationYesHow the Chat App connects to the server — see options below
API Key / CredentialNoThe credential required by the selected authentication type
Active ToolsNoComma-separated list of tool names to enable. Leave empty to enable all tools
  1. Click Add to save the server

The server appears in the list immediately, and the AI assistant can start using its tools in new conversations.

Authentication Types

TypeDescriptionCredential Format
NoneNo authentication requiredLeave empty
Bearer TokenStandard HTTP Bearer tokensk-... or any token string
Basic AuthUsername and passworduser:password (must include a colon)
X-API-KeyAPI key sent in a custom headerAny API key string
Optional Credentials

The API Key field is optional for all authentication types. If you leave it empty, the server will be added without credentials. You can update the server later if credentials become required.

Basic Auth Format

When using Basic Auth, the credential must be in the format username:password with exactly one colon separating the two parts.

Select Active Tools

By default, all tools exposed by an MCP server are available to the AI assistant. If you want to restrict which tools can be used:

  1. In the Active Tools field, enter a comma-separated list of tool names
  2. Only the listed tools will be enabled

Example:

weather_forecast,geocoding

Leave this field empty to enable all tools from the server.

Delete an MCP Server

  1. Find the server in the list
  2. Click the trash icon in the Actions column
  3. Confirm in the popup
Cannot Be Undone

Deleting an MCP server removes it permanently. The AI assistant will no longer be able to use any tools from that server. You can always add the server again later if needed.
